Each week you should be scanning the free agent market in your mini league looking for value pick ups that other managers have missed. These players won’t cost you your place in the Waiver Queue but can provide the extra few points you need on a short term basis. Here we give a full lineup of potential free agent players for Gameweek 6.
< You can learn more about this transfer tactic (called “streaming”) in our article FPL Draft Transfer Tactics: Streaming. >
GOALKEEPER: Heurelho Gomes, 27.5% owned, West Bromwich Albion Vs Watford
Watford have quietly won all 3 of their away games so far this season keeping 2 clean sheets in the process. Opponents West Brom haven’t scored more than once at the Hawthorns in a Premier League game since March and have failed to score in 5 of their last 7 home fixtures.
DEFENDERS: Kieran Trippier, 33.6% owned, Huddersfield Town Vs Tottenham Hotspur
This week Kieran Trippier is a perfect example of how streaming can be used especially if you are in a smaller league. Normally a rotation risk at right back for Spurs alongside summer recruit Serge Aurier the Ivorian’s suspension for Gameweek 7 leaves Trippier as the de facto choice for Pochettino in a favourable matchup against low scoring Huddersfield Town. Unless Poch throws a curve ball and selects 3rd choice youngster Kyle Walker-Peters then Trippier is a great shout for a decent points haul this weekend.
Kiko Femenía, 0.9% owned, West Bromwich Albion Vs Watford
The Spanish right back averages 6pts per match this season and despite missing GW5 through injury is still the joint 12th highest scoring defender in the League. Having gone off injured after 62 minutes of GW4 he still managed to grab 2 bonus points in that game and has been hoovering them up consistently with 6 in total already. Criminally under-owned in draft leagues he travels to goal shy West Brom this Saturday.
Jonny Evans, 5.3% owned, West Bromwich Albion Vs Watford
Evans was the subject of a bid from Manchester City this summer and is the experienced leader of Tony Pulis’s defence. Now fully fit he has reclaimed his rightful place at the heart of the Baggies back line. After a decent showing in Monday Night Football’s defeat to Arsenal Evans will seek a return to winning ways in front of the West Brom faithful.
Mason Holgate, 1.4% owned, Everton Vs Burnley
Injuries to Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka on top of the more long term absence of Ramiro Funes Mori mean that England U21 internationl Holgate is next in line at central defence for Everton.
MIDFIELDERS: Marko Arnautovic, 39.8% owned, West Ham United Vs Swansea City
West Ham will be without star man Michail Antonio for Saturday’s visit of Swansea City and will look to Arnautovic for their creative spark. He popped up with a couple of assists in their recent Carabao Cup tie and will be keen to impress after missing 3 matches already this campaign after his red card for violent conduct in GW2.
Shaqiri, 12.8% owned, Stoke City Vs Southampton
Stoke have suffered a string of injuries at centre back and may well see attack as the best form of defence this weekend. That will suit former Bayern Munich man Shaqiri down to the ground and he just gets the nod ahead of Jesé who hasn’t completed a full 90 minutes yet for the Potters.
**Richarlison, 16.3% owned, West Bromwich Albion Vs Watford
Brazilian Richarlison has featured in every game this season, completing the full 90 minutes in each of the last 4 games. Playing in an attacking role he scored in GW6 and is listed as a MID on the Official FPL site but as a FOR on Draft Fantasy & RealFF.
FORWARDS: Chris Wood, 6.3% owned, Everton Vs Burnley
Burnley’s record signing will look to take advantage of Everton’s potentially weakened back line (Michael Keane & Phil Jagielka are both serious injury doubts for Sunday’s fixture). The Toffee’s also have a crucial Europa League fixture on Thursday and this could play into the hands of the fresher Clarets this weekend.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, 7.5% owned, Everton Vs Burnley
The fact is that Everton look a better side with Calvert-Lewin leading the line. When he came off the bench in their Europa League tie on Thursday night his pace and power helped transform the Blues attack and he nearly scored a couple of goals himself. The thinking is that he was rested for that game as he is in line to start on Sunday ahead of GW6 match winner the 0.4% owned Oumar Niasse. (You can read a bit of background about Niasse in our Gameweek 6 Round Up) Another player to keep an eye on is Croatian Nikola Vlasic (0.4% owned) who has made a big impression in his cameo appearances for the first team so far.
Wilfried Bony, 21% owned, West Ham United Vs Swansea City
Swansea manager Paul Clement stated that Bony was ready to “light up the league” last week and he has a great opportunity to get a first PL goal since his return to the Welsh club when they take on West Ham who have conceded an average of more than 2 goals per game this season.
