FPL Draft Tips: Double Gameweek 22 – Come on David Moyes!

The one thing this Christmas extravaganza of fixtures was missing was a double gameweek…..until now!

The decision to move Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham to January 4th due to security reasons has created our first double gameweek of the season.

Spurs will play Swansea away and West Ham at home, whilst West Ham play West Brom at home before travelling to Wembley two days later.

Now double Gameweeks are easier to manage and profit from in regular fantasy premier league, where anyone can pick up any player. Anyone playing that game should look to get a few Spurs assets in and maybe look to bank the free transfer in GW21. Despite the mania on twitter every time he blanks Kane’s form isn’t that bad this season as his 10 league goals and 6 Champions League goals suggest.

He is definitely a captain and triple captain option for those games. Spurs will have a rest from Boxing Day until January 2nd so two games in 3 days shouldn’t be a problem. There is also past fixtures to use a precedent.

In Christmas 2015, Spurs played Norwich and Watford on December 26 and 28. Kane played 180 minutes, Alli, 160 and Eriksen 117 minutes. Only Eriksen failed to score or assist in those matches.

If you play Togga or Draft Fantasy now might be a good time to try and trade in some Spurs players but otherwise our job in draft leagues is a lot harder. There will be a temptation to pile straight in and stream as many players as you can, but this isn’t a box of Miniature Heroes or a bottle of Christmas beer. We need to evaluate this properly. Now many of you may think I’ve been at the Christmas sherry when you read the next part.

Now may be the time to sneak West Ham players into your team. If you are chasing in a draft league this may be a chance to make up some ground. Most of the elite Spurs players will already be taken and of the squad players only Lamela jumps out as a differential who might be available.

On the other hand West Ham have some good fixtures in the build up to the double gameweek with Stoke, Newcastle, Bournemouth in the 3 games before the West Brom game.

We will investigate the nearer the time depending on form and Christmas results, but based on current form and past production, Lanzini, Cresswell, Antonio and Hart (or Adrian if he keeps his place in goal following Hart’s ineligibility against parent Club Man City) could all be worth a look at. With Arnautovic, Ayew and Sakho all possibilities if they establish themselves in the side.

Unlike in the regular game we can stream all of these players in at no cost nearer the double GW if required so if you are sceptical about getting David Moyes players in there is no rush to plan these bits just yet. Bear in mind that both teams have no fixture in GW21 and will blank so it may be best to stream later rather than earlier. Another thing to consider is West Ham’s decent recent record against Spurs, they have won 6 of the past 11 meetings including a League Cup victory at Wembley this season. And if you put West Ham players in and it all goes wrong just do what David Moyes does and blame everyone else!
