FPL Draft Tips: Friday Free Agents Gameweek 16

Each week you should be scanning the free agent market in your mini league looking for value pick ups that other managers have missed. These players won’t cost you your place in the Waiver Queue but can provide the extra few points you need on a short term basis. Here we give a full lineup of potential free agent players for Gameweek 16. The rules are that only one player per club can be selected at each position (Eg. Can’t name 4 Burnley defenders etc).

Last weeks Friday Free Agents averaged 3.4 Pts Per Player despite Lee Grant scoring zero after a miraculous and totally unexpected return to action by Jack Butland. The rest of the lineup managed 3 clean sheets, 2 goals and 4 Bonus Points.

GOALKEEPER: Jonas Lössl, 24.6% owned, Huddersfield Town Vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

Gameweek 16 has a lot of potential clean sheet candidates without any of them truly standing out. Huddersfield have performed well at home this season with a victory against Manchester United and a recent last gasp defeat against all conquering Manchester City. In fact in their 4 home matches against non “Top 6” teams the Terriers have kept 3 clean sheets and only conceded one goal. This is a huge game for the Yorkshire Club and one they must be looking at winning to stand a chance of survival in the Premier League.

DEFENDERS: Shane Duffy, 2.6% owned, Huddersfield Town Vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brighton have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 6 away games and their previous 3 matches on the road have seen a pair of wins to nil and a narrow 1-0 defeat by Manchester United. Duffy has an assist & 5 Bonus Points to his name this term which gives him the edge over fellow centre half Lewis Dunk. Be aware that Irishman Duffy is one booking away from a one match suspension.

Mamadou Sakho, 2.2% owned, Crystal Palace Vs AFC Bournemouth.

Sakho is a regular in this column and is Palace’s highest points earner this season with a hugely impressive average of 4.3 PPG. A danger in both boxes he has a goal, an assist and an incredible 10 Bonus Points to his name already.

Wes Morgan, 1.7% owned, Newcastle United Vs Leicester City.

Assuming the excellent Harry Maguire is already taken in Draft Leagues (if not get him in!) look to his defensive partner and Club captain Morgan. The former Forest man hasn’t missed a minute of Premier League action this season.

Kiko Femenía, 5.4% owned, Burnley Vs Watford.

You could have been forgiven for not knowing much about the Spainiard Femenía on Draft day but he has proven to be something of a Bonus Point magnet for Watford. In the game against Man Utd Femenía came 4th in the Bonus Point scoring system despite conceding 4 goals and having 0 goals or assists.

MIDFIELDERS: Andrew Surman, 3.2% owned, Crystal Palace Vs AFC Bournemouth.

Surman has completed the full 90 in all except one match this season and has a healthy PPG of 4.1. Opponents Crystal Palace are yet to keep a clean sheet at home in 2017/18 and have conceded 12 goals in 7 games at Selhurst Park. Surman has plundered 3 assists in his last 5 appearances.

Aaron Mooy, 23.7% owned, Huddersfield Town Vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

There was an overreaction to Mooy’s first 2 games at this level which secured him 16 Pts and a hurried place in FPL teams across the land. He only has one League goal since then but make no mistake the folically challenged Australian is a decent player whose performance levels have shown he belongs in the elite league. He put in an impressive display against Everton last weekend despite being on the losing side and a Home matchup with fellow promoted side Brighton can see him come to the fore once again.

Demarai Gray, 3% owned, Newcastle United Vs Leicester City.

I like this Leicester City team and I like Demarai Gray. Claude Puel’s pace drenched set up with Mahrez, Vardy & Gray sounds like just the ticket to expose a Newcastle side who are under pressure and desperate for a win after 5 defeats in 6 games.

FORWARDS: Charlie Austin, 14.6% owned, Southampton Vs Arsenal.

In a difficult game for the Saints they may look to the aerial ability of Austin from set pieces. Needless to say nobody expects Austin to start both matches this week but  he has a goals per minutes ratio of 1:79 and a start on Sunday followed by a rest until GW18 would make sense.

Glenn Murray, 11.8% owned, Huddersfield Town Vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

After an injury hit opening few months the striker has 5 goals in 8 consecutive starts. This is a huge game for both sides as Huddersfield edge closer to the relegation zone after an impressive start. Murray already has 3 away goals to his name and they have come against fellow strugglers West Ham and Swansea.

Chris Wood, 11.2% owned, Burnley Vs Watford.

7th plays 8th as two of the season’s surprise packages face off at Turf Moor. For all Watford’s attacking flair they have still shipped 23 goals in their previous 11 games.
