Each week you should be scanning the free agent market in your mini league looking for value pick ups that other managers have missed. These players won’t cost you your place in the Waiver Queue but can provide the extra few points you need on a short term basis. Here we give a full lineup of potential free agent players for Gameweek 17. The rules are that only one player per club can be selected at each position (Eg. Can’t name 4 Burnley defenders etc).

Last week this column tipped 6 defensive options and achieved 4 clean sheets. The other 2 picks were Stephen Ward who limped off injured before he was eligible for clean sheet points in Burnley’s 1-0 win over Stoke City and Victor Moses whose Chelsea side conceded a last minute consolation goal in a 3-1 win. Our highest points scorer was Goalkeeper Nick Pope with 11 Pts.
GOALKEEPER: Nick Pope, 12.2% owned, Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Burnley.
It almost seems like it would be dereliction of duty if Sean Dyche’s Burnley didn’t get a mention this week. The Ginger Mourinho knows how to win football matches and that starts with having a miserly defence. Last season Burnley were terrible away from Turf Moor but they have already won 4 matches on their travels in 2017/18 which is remarkable when you consider that they have faced 7 teams who finished in the top 9 of the Premier League last year.
DEFENDERS: James Tarkowski, 6.7% owned, Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Burnley.
Burnley’s defence has a few question marks about it with potential returns for Ben Mee & Matt Lowton coupled with regular left back Stephen Ward limping off in the first half of the Clarets midweek victory over Stoke. Tarkowski is the safest bet for a starter in the ever solid back line.
Victor Moses, 36.7% owned, Chelsea Vs Southampton.
Moses has out performed right back rival Davide Zappacosta so far this season and will be looking for more attacking returns against the Saints.
Jonjoe Kenny, 0.5% owned, Everton Vs Swansea.
The lifelong Evertonian signed a new 5 year deal with the club on Thursday after impressing after coming into the team in the absence of the injured Seamus Coleman. Pacy full back Kenny has started 9 consecutive League games and has played a large part in the teams defensive resurgence under Big Sam.
Christian Kabasele, 2.9% owned, Watford Vs Huddersfield Town.
Opponents Huddersfield haven’t scored away from home since GW1 and Kabasele has started 15 consecutive matches chipping in with 2 goals.
MIDFIELDERS: Jack Wilshere, 0.4% owned, Arsenal Vs Newcastle United.
Wilshere was arguably Arsenal’s best player against West Ham on Wednesday night and with Aaron Ramsey set for an extended spell on the sidelines Wilshere can fill his boots against a Newcastle side who have lost 7 out of their last 8.
Pascal Groß, 24.8% owned, Brighton & Hove Albion Vs Burnley.
Groß was rested midweek and the set piece taker could be key for Brighton with clear cut chances likey to be at a premium against Burnley.
Shaqiri, 24.1% owned, Stoke City Vs West Ham United.
This is a massive game for Stoke whose manager Mark Hughes appears to be on the hot seat. I’m no Hughes fan personally but to play devil’s advocate the Potters have faced 4 away games in their last 6 fixtures and one of their home ties was against a rampant Liverpool. The other home match they won against Swansea. Stoke simply must perform here and Shaqiri remains their best player.
Abdoulaye Doucouré, 28.1% owned, Watford Vs Huddersfield Town.
As mentioned previously Huddersfield are lacking Premier League quality and have seriously struggled away from home. Doucouré has been something of a revelation this term and is unlikely to be rested this week especially with fellow midfielder Tom Cleverley banned for GW18 on top of injuries to Will Hughes & Nathaniel Chalobah.
Marko Arnautovic, 35.6% owned, Stoke City Vs West Ham United.
Austrian Arnautovic was something of a flop following his big money move from Stoke this summer but has found a new lease of life under David Moyes and will be keen to deliver against his former side.
FORWARDS: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, 11.8% owned, Everton Vs Swansea City.
DCL was one of 3 young Everton players to extend their contracts on Thursday and he has all the physical tools needed to make his mark as a centre forward at this level. He has managed 6 goals in all competitions this season on top of 6 Premier League assists.
