As someone who has been known to sulk for the rest of the weekend if my captain blanks, ruin the weekend activities with the family because my captain blanks, the idea of not taking fantasy leagues too seriously is a bit alien to me.
However one aspect of the game which I do like to not take to seriously is the idea of having a player in televised matches.
Now going out of your way to have a player playing in televised games may seem a bit counter intuitive and it probably is. But my rational is this, is it better to update Twitter every 5 minutes to see if someone has scored or do you want to be watching a live game adding to the drama. Don’t get me wrong I’m not going to sell Kane to buy Diouf just because Stoke are on TV, but if the choice is between two similar players and 1 gives me TV coverage for the next few weeks he’s in.
This crossed my mind when picking my teams for this weekend a few 50/50 decisions where Crystal Palace players have made my plans. This weekend I’ll be having a few scoops to watch the Super Bowl. (Anyone not a fan of NFL because it has too many stoppages may want to consider that the ball in football is out of play 33% of the time and that will increase with VAR. The following stats are from 27/11/17)
I want coverage in the live games Sunday afternoon and sometimes it may cost you a few points , sometimes it may benefit you. But it will always make the game more fun which is the point of it. Honestly.
GW 26 Streaming Tips
Defender: Fosu Mensah, Crystal Palace (NEW H) Barring a 20 minute blitz away at Arsenal, Palace have been defensively solid in recent weeks, with the Manchester United loanee in great form. Fosu Mensah has 15 points in his last 2 home matches and featured highly in the BPS. A Newcastle team still waiting for Slimani to get fit could be a great opportunity to get a 3rd home clean sheet in a row.
Midfielder: Gross, Brighton (WHU H)
Gross ownership is still low despite a great start to the season. Owned by only 15% in FPL and only by 1 League in 4 on Draft Fantasy, he may be available to you. West Ham have an injury crisis of sorts and haven’t played well for a few weeks as they regress to their Moyes Mean. This could be the game Gross reminds us of his quality.
Forward: Aubameyang, Arsenal (EVE H)
Cheating a bit this one really. But if the Arsenal director of football can claim credit for “scouting” his ex player then we can have him a streaming pick. Technically his ownership is currently 0%! Arsenal are in great form at home and Ozil looks to be in one of his purple patches and can provide Aubameyang with a debut goal.
If you’re flying high in the Official site’s league you won’t get Aubameyang due to the last-picks-first waiver system so look out for team news on Sturridge at home to Southampton or Ayew away at Leicester.
Saturday: Pickford; Bellerin; De Bruyne, Ibe; Sanchez
Sunday: Lloris; Davies; Eriksen, Zaha; Salah
Monday: Gomes; Alonso; Hazard, Carrillo; Morata
The midweek tips were good on Tuesday a score of 144.5 for Lossl, Bellerin, Ozil, Mane and Salah should have been good enough to compete for cash in most leagues. Wednesday was a strange night all round, but 207.6 for Foster, Alonso, Hazard, De Bruyne, Sterling also should have been good enough for cash placed albeit in a higher scoring night.
Bonus Super Bowl tips!
Score: Patriots 27, Eagles 23
1st TD: Brandin Cooks
Pinks hair on national anthem: Pink/Red
First Timberlake song at HT: Cry Me A River
