A busy period begins this week which will make things interesting from an FPL perspective. This weekend is the last round of games before the FA Cup 5th round, which could wipe as many as 7 fixtures off in GW31. This will then subsequently cause DGW’s in 34 and 37.
Next week sees the return of the Champions League. If you are playing the Official UEFA game or the Telegraph game remember you have a free wildcard before the knockouts. If you are playing UCL Draft Fantasy we will be back early next week with some tips but in the meantime there’s a piece from last December when the draw was made.
The effect of the Champions League on the FPL game is two fold.
1. The top teams may rest players in the build up so there may be more opportunity for lesser teams and players to pick up unexpected points
2. The top teams resting stars may mean reserve players at top sides start the weekend before meaning the likes of Rashford, Jesus, Bernardo, Lamela, Llorente etc are worth consideration for streaming.
Next midweek sees Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool all in CL action away from home. Arsenal also play in the Europa League but it remains to be seen how seriously Wenger takes the tournament.
It’s not too late to play fantasy Champions League this season!
Last weekend’s Tips were nearly a clean sweep. Gross returned to form against an inept West Ham with 13 points, Aubameyang (!) scored on his debut to gain 6 points and Fosu Mensah was denied a clean sheet before Benteke blazed over from his cross to also deny him an assist.
Gameweek 27 streaming tips
Defender: Coleman/Martina, Everton (CRY) Coleman is back from his horrific injury and if your league is one of the 57 percent where he is available then you need to take him. If not Martina would be a good replacement. Everton were dreadful last week but Arsenal were in beguiling form and expect Sam to get them defensively sound this weekend.
Midfield: Ward Prowse, Southampton (LIV H)
Ward Prowse is in a great run of form and his wicked set pieces can hurt Liverpool who may have one eye on an away trip to Porto in midweek. Even if Klopp plays his strongest defence would anyone know anyway. As the great Malcolm Tucker would say they are an omnishambles and Ward Prowse could definitely take advantage on Super Sunday.
Forward: Jordan Ayew,Swansea (BUR H)
Ayew is in a great run of goalscoring form, scoring in alternative weeks over the last 7 weeks. If he carries on that pattern he can punish a Burnley team who have plateaued after a great start.
Saturday: Schmeichel; Walker; De Bruyne, Doucoure; Kane
Sunday: Lossl; Valencia; Ward Prowse, Ibe; Salah
Monday: Foster; Alonso; Hazard, Willian; Giroud
There is also a game on Friday for experts of the championship when Milwall host Cardiff.
Good luck this weekend!
