Champions League Knockout Tips

A great return to the Champions League last week. The Spurs v Juventus and Real Madrid v PSG games were crackers. So good I forgot all fantasy league implications!

A few of last weeks tips were vindicated, you can read this article here.

Champions League Fantasy Is Back!!

Only 2 clean sheets in 8 is a near identical rate to last seasons knock out rounds. The goals per game rate was high, inflated by two thrashings by Liverpool and Manchester City. PSG capitulated in the last few minutes and have an uphill task to qualify but the moment has probably passed to trade their players.

This weeks games see Barcelona visit Chelsea, Bayern host Besiktas before Man Utd travel to Sevilla and Roma play Shakhtar.

If you are playing versions that allow transfers mid round only Bayern Munich attackers and Manchester United defenders really stand out. Bayern have dished out a few thrashings in recent years and Lewandowski has 27 goals already this season. Manchester United won the Europa League last season conceding only two goals in five knockout away games with 3 clean sheets and look likely to base any Champions League run on a similar defensive base.

I wouldn’t put anyone off buying Barcelona players but they are patchy at best away in Europe. Their last 13 away knockout games have seen them win only four and lose 8 and average a goal a game, failing to score in seven of those ties. Be careful about going all in on Barcelona especially against a Chelsea team capable of being well organised at home.

The excellent one day fantasy site @dribblefantasy have games on both Tuesday and Wednesday including head to head draft games.

Tuesday team:
Fabri; Kimmich; Hazard, Tollisso; Lewandowski.

Wednesday team:
De Gea; Kolorov; Bernard, Fred; Lukaku.

Good luck this week and enjoy the games!
