Champions League Quarter Finals time! The tips for the second round included to trade away Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe as PSG weren’t to be trusted and to disregard your defence as the knockout rounds last year produced only clean sheets in 25% of possible chances. PSG were easily beaten by Real Madrid and clean sheet rate was only 28.13%.
I’ll go through the ties one by one with tips for your draft teams. If you’re playing the official UEFA version you receive 6 free transfers before the quarters start and if you’re playing the Telegraph version remember the fixtures reverse on each other next week so the Wednesday ties this week are on Tuesday this week so if you’re looking at buying players from Liverpool, Man City, Roma and Barcelona wait until Wednesday to buy them and sell your Tuesday players after they play to get an extra game out of them.
Juventus v Real Madrid
A tough tie to call as Ronaldo is in the form of his life, oh wait no, he’s on the form of every other players life this is just a normal run for him! Madrid also have nothing else to play for. Juventus are in a neck and neck battle with Napoli to retain their Serie A crown. Juventus were also outplayed for all but 20 minutes of 180 against Spurs so it’s hard to judge them. However they have a great record in two legged ties against Spanish teams knocking out Barcelona last year and Real Madrid 2 years earlier.
Prediction: Juventus. The game against Spurs was a classic example of knockout Champions League football. You can be going along nicely and then the roof caves in all of a sudden. Madrid haven’t been great when the pressure has been on against top sides, gamble on Juve sneaking it and this might be a great time to trade Ronaldo if you’re chasing in a league.
Sevilla v Bayern Munich
Sevilla are an average side only here because Mourinho bottled his tactics. Bayern Munich are in great form and demolished Dortmund at the weekend
Prediction: Bayern Munich. Get as many Munich as you can.
Roma v Barcelona
Roma are a streetwise side and have gone quietly under the radar this season however Barcelona should have enough over the two legs especially if Messi carries on his sublime form. He’s in the form of his life, oh wait no, this is the form of every other players life, this is just normal for him.
Prediction: Barcelona. Don’t rush to sell Roma attackers but try and get Barcelona players in.
Liverpool v Manchester City
What a tie. This could be a classic. A lot has been made of Liverpool beating Citi at Anfield in the league but I think that could help City. They looked shellshocked at Anfield and that result could be a warning for City to be alive from the start this time.
Prediction: City to sneak a classic. Don’t rush to sell anyone. But any chasers might consider trading Salah and Firmino.
Tuesday: Buffon; Marcelo; Rodriguez, Modric; Lewandowski
Wednesday: Karius; Walker, De Bruyne, Rakitic; Messi
